Universal Music Group To Buy EMI Music for $1.9 Billion

So UMG purchase EMI. What does that mean to music and what does that mean to you? Click below the jump to find out!

EMI Music is known as the home of many legendary and well-known artists such as The Beatles, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Gorillaz, G-Unit, etc. EMI is also one of the "big four" record labels - the other three being Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group. EMI was always able to stand off on its own with major success from many of their artists (not to mention many Beatles/Pink Floyd album reissues). However, EMI wasn't able to stand strong enough, as the label and publishings were bought by Universal, merging the "big four" into the "big three."

Now what does that mean to us? Perhaps if one was to do a YouTube video on a new Drake or Lil Wayne song, it may get blocked by their labels (UMG). I'm not sure if EMI has been swiftly cracking down on their new songs being played on YouTube, as much as UMG, at least. But if one was to play a new Coldplay or Chiddy Bang on their YouTube video, it may recieve a "UMG/EMI" treatment where it may be removed in a quick second.

Therefore, this may be a musical revolution where EMI & UMG may be the best or worst tandem. Best, because more history with EMI will be reserved with Universal (even GangStarr records may be remastered, no?). Or worst, because it would equal more crackdowns on downloads, YouTube, background noises, basically any way that's not getting the label paid. They want need your money! So what you all think: history in the making? Or misery in the making?
